At the same conference, Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng announced the city government will hold a conference next week to clear the air about the Shanghai Disneyland. The project has been subject to wild speculation.
Shanghai-related shares got a boost on Monday, as a long-awaited theme park plan appears to have moved forward. The timing may coincide with US President Barack Obama's first state visit to China from November 15th to 18th, with a stop in Shanghai.
In March last year, the Mayor announced that Shanghai had applied for state approval to build a Disneyland in the Pudong New Area. The investment could reach tens of billions of yuan, creating another driving force for Shanghai's economy.
Property, hospitality, retail and tourism sectors are looking forward the third Disneyland project in Asia, after Tokyo and Hong Kong.
