The rebels captured Goma the capital of Nortn Kivu province in Mid November 2012 but it does appear a deal has been reached that will see them withdraw their forces from the city and enter into talks with the government of President Joseph Kabila.

Kenyans await election ruling

The result of the Kenyan presidential election is hanging in the balance. Uhuru Kenyatta was officially declared the winner over a week ago. But on Saturday, his defeated rival, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, launched a legal challenge at the country’s Supreme Court. Kenyans are now focusing on the court’s decision, which is expected in the next two weeks.

Mali residents grateful to France

For residents of the Malian town of Niono, the French intervention could not have come soon enough. Situated next to Diabaly, the town was on the brink of capture when French forces attacked the rebels.
