Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the plenary session of the fourth Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, and visited the All-Russian Children's Center "Ocean" with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok, Russia on September 12.

In his address at the session, Xi elaborated on the achievements China and Russia have made in Far East cooperation over the past years and called on countries to seize the historical opportunity to strengthen cooperation in the Russian Far East and Northeast Asia for a better future of the region.

Xi also put forward proposals that countries in Northeast Asia should build up mutual trust to safeguard regional peace and tranquility, deepen cooperation to achieve mutually-beneficial and win-win outcomes, learn from each other to consolidate their traditional friendship and take a long-term perspective to realize integrated development, which drew a clear roadmap for a bright future of Northeast Asia. Countries in Northeast Asia have their respective advantages in economic development with great potential for cooperation.

Xi called on the regional countries to align their development strategies, strengthen policy coordination, improve cross-border infrastructure connectivity, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, jointly build an open regional economy, and boost sub-regional cooperation to benefit the people in the region. Xi’s speech charts the direction for jointly building an open regional economy and a Northeast Asia economic circle.

Global environmental problems are alarming and climate change is closely related to all countries.

President Xi said China stands ready to work with other countries to strive for the diversified and sustainable development of the region. He called on related countries to explore new models for coordinated development in Northeast Asia, speed up scientific and technological innovations, foster a resource-saving and environment-friendly industrial pattern and way of life and jointly tackle the regional environment issues that all countries are facing.

It is expected that Xi’s proposals will chart the direction for deepening the regional cooperation in Northeast Asian and open new prospects for mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
