The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 2018 Beijing Summit will be held on September 3-4 in Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the summit and attend other meetings. The summit will be a significant diplomatic event hosted by China this year and attended by the largest number of foreign leaders to date.
Themed "China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future through Win-Win Cooperation," Chinese and African leaders will gather to discuss China-Africa cooperation in the new era and add a new chapter for their friendly relations.
This year is the third time the summit to be convened, following the inaugural 2006 summit in Beijing and the 2015 summit in Johannesburg. Founded 18 years ago, FOCAC has achieved fruitful results in political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges.
President Xi attaches great importance to the China-Africa relationship. He has put up China-Africa ties on the principles of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith concept of African policy, "five major pillars" and "ten cooperation plans", which serve as a major framework for China-Africa cooperation.
FOCAC is a proven, effective platform for pragmatic China-Africa cooperation. Expectations run high that with joint efforts of China and Africa, the Beijing summit will be a success. Both sides will reach consensus on setting a new path for a higher level of China-Africa cooperation and further dovetail China's Belt and Road Initiative with African development, opening up a new chapter for a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.
