On July 23, Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Pretoria to pay a state visit to the "rainbow nation" at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Visiting President Xi held talks with his South African counterpart Ramaphosa, and attended a celebration to mark the 20th anniversary of the bilateral ties and opening ceremony of the South Africa-China Scientists High Level Dialogue.
During talks, the two leaders reached consensus on deepening the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership in a new era. They agreed to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, align their development strategies, promote pragmatic cooperation, and increase people-to people exchanges, thus enabling the two peoples to enjoy more fruits of bilateral cooperation.
President Xi paid his first state visit to South Africa after he took office as head of state five years ago and this is his third state visit to the African country, which is of strategic significance.
The two heads of state reached a series of important consensuses and witnessed the signing of a series of bilateral cooperation documents. All these demonstrated a "comrade plus brother" relationship between the two nations featuring sincere friendship, mutual trust and close bond for generations to come, and will chart the course of the pragmatic cooperation and strategic cooperation coordination of both countries.
At a new historical point, President Xi's visit injected a new impetus into all-round cooperation between China and South Africa, wrote a new chapter for building a closer China-Africa community with a shared future, and further promoted China-South African ties to be a model for China-Africa ties and South-South cooperation, as well as the solidarity and cooperation of emerging-market countries.
