On July 22-23, at the invitation of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Rwanda, dubbed the "Land of a Thousand Hills." On their arrival on Sunday, Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were warmly received by Kagame and his wife, Jeannette Kagame. At the airport, locals dressed in beautiful national costumes, danced cheerfully, and played African drum music, expressing a warm welcome to the distinguished guests.

Visiting President Xi and his Rwandan counterpart, Kagame held talks and drew up a blueprint for furthering China-Rwanda friendship and cooperation in the future. The two leaders agreed to further promote bilateral cooperation in a bid to deliver more fruitful results and benefits for the Chinese, Rwandan and African peoples.

It is President Xi's first visit to Rwanda and also the first state visit to Rwanda by a Chinese head of state, which is of historic significance. Xi’s trip injected a new impetus into the traditional friendship and cooperation in various fields, and brought China-Rwanda ties to a fast track of development, and also transformed China-Rwanda friendship into more tangible benefits for both peoples, writing a new chapter in furthering friendship and cooperation of the two countries.

Rwanda is the rotating chair of the African Union. Xi’s visit has promoted the China-African friendship, win-win cooperation and common development to a new level. It has made the Chinese Dream and African Dream resonate for both sides, and boosted the building of China-African community with a shared future and common interests, which sets an example for South-South Cooperation.
