On July 21-22, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Senegal at the invitation of Senegalese President Macky Sall. Upon arriving in Dakar, a grand welcoming ceremony was held to greet him, with thousands of locals dressed in festive attire, cheering, singing and dancing. Xi received Senegal's top medal of honor from Sall.
On Saturday, the two leaders agreed to continue making joint efforts to promote more fruitful results from cooperation in various fields, vowing to create a better future for bilateral ties.
This is Xi's first visit to the West African country and also China's major diplomatic move to West Africa. Xi's visit upgraded the China- Senegal comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, strengthened the alignment of development strategies of the Belt and Road Initiative and "the Plan for an Emerging Senegal" and deepened pragmatic cooperation in various areas between the two nations.
Xi's visit was successful, efficient and pragmatic with fruitful results, which has been widely applauded. President Xi opened up new prospects for the development of China-Senegal ties and set up a new model of China-West Africa cooperation, adding a new chapter to the comprehensive and balanced development of China-Africa relations.
