Men in China's Zhejiang province have been testing their mettle at the traditional 'Lianhuo' festival, which involves walking over burning coals.

Lianhuo, also known as "firewalking," has been added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list as a tradition unique to the province in Pan'an county.

Performers are walking barefoot across burning coals and agitating the fire during the performance in order to ward off evil spirits and pray for good fortune.

Local people have held the ceremony to show respects to ancestors on the Double Ninth Festival.
