On March 20, 2018, Xi Jinping, Chinese President, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a keynote address at the closing meeting of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing on March 20.

Xi said the great national spirit was fostered, passed down and developed by the Chinese people during their long-time struggles. He called on the whole Party, the peoples of all nationalities nationwide to stay true to the original aspiration, hold on to the mission, and strive to accomplish outstanding achievements in the new era.

As China’s top leader, Xi vowed to stay devoted to the Party and the country, which encourages the Chinese people with full confidence and gives impetus to break new ground for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

To realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the nation relies on promoting the national spirits. When he first took over the presidency five years ago, Xi pledged to push forward the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and strive for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, drawing up a blueprint for its future development.

Under Xi's leadership, China has made historic achievements in the past five years, offering broader prospects for the Chinese people to pursue their dreams on more splendid stages.

With Xi re-elected as president, history has opened a new chapter. Xi summed up the great national spirits nurtured by the Chinese people that cover the great spirits of creativity, struggle, unity, and pursuing dreams.

He highlighted the great significance of spiritual power to support national development and progress of human civilization, serving as a source of faith and strength to fulfill the Chinese Dream.

Adapting to the new historic juncture for its development, China is embarking on a new journey to secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and building a modern socialist country with mighty powers in the new era.

History has proven and will continue to prove that, with the wise leadership of the Party, the sincere solidarity of the people and the fighting spirit inspired by the nation, the great dream of national rejuvenation will be achieved. The giant ship of the Chinese nation is expected to battle the waves and thrash to windward, heading for a promising future.

The new era belongs to every and each of us; we are all its witnesses, creators and builders.
