Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, joined a panel forum with deputies from Shandong Province at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress, China's top legislature in Beijing on March 8.
Xi said the 19th CPC National Congress had drawn up the rural vitalization strategy. The implementation of the strategy is a historic task to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and socialist modernization in all respects. It's a leading agenda for the government work on agriculture, rural areas, and rural residents in the new era.
Agriculture development is one of the key state plans. The quality of a moderately prosperous society and socialist modernization is determined by agricultural competitiveness and rural incomes.
Xi proposed the "five revitalizations" to push forward the vitalization of industries, talents, culture, ecology, and administrative system in rural areas, drawing a clear road map for the rural vitalization strategy.
The rural vitalization strategy should get implemented step-by-step, making it possible to improve agricultural competitiveness, optimize rural environment and boost rural incomes to write a new chapter for building a beautiful countryside in the new era.
Only people with courage can contribute outstanding achievements. Standing at a new starting point for reform and opening up, government officials at all levels and all the people should hold the idea of "a great cause cannot have been accomplished by individuals," but as relay teams to pursue high-quality development that needs solid efforts in a long run.
Xi asked authorities to respect the wishes of rural residents and turn their desire for a better life into a force driving rural vitalization, protecting their fundamental interests and bringing them common prosperity. Only by this, can the authorities earn people's respect and set a milestone in the nation’s development history.
