Zheng Weiguo, 46, lives in Longquan, east China’s Zhejiang province. He had a hobby of collecting celadons, but it was a pity that most of the pieces he found were incomplete. Thus, the thought of learning to restore the ancient porcelains emerged. After countless failures and attempts, he finally found the way and earned his fame in the circle for his own talents. When facing difficulties, he would ask for the experts’ help, read relevant documents, or go to the excavation site to learn about the firing skills. Zheng said that when doing the job, he would incorporate his mind into the porcelains, follow the art works’ original feelings. “It’s just like we people fall in love, you should learn to know and understand your lover,” he said.
Mise, or secret color ware, is regarded as the finest result during the peak development of China’s Yue kiln. For thousands of years, it has been only existed in people’s imaginations, both for the lack of historical records and little in quantity that are handed down.
