Editor's foreword: "Looking China" International Youth Film Project is co-organized by the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture (AICCC), Beijing Normal University and Huilin Foundation. The program focuses on the young participants’ personal experiences of Chinese culture and encourages them to discover and tell Chinese stories from their own perspectives.

As of the year 2017, students from all over the world were invited to participate in the project. They were stationed in 12 municipality, provinces and autonomous regions here in China. Every filmmaker has worked out a 10-minute short film about Chinese culture around the topic of "Craftsmanship·Inheritance·Innovation.”

The movie "Guardians", directed by Nemanja Lekovic and produced by Zhong Lijie, was filmed in an ancient custom village called, Zhangguying in a southern China province, Hunan. Zhang Guying is founder of the village, who came to settle here long ago. The village is an external expression of Chinese clan culture, which is part of Confucianisms.

Although the village residents can’t help with the design and repair of the old architectures, they are the first to participate in protection and development of the village inspired by the economic benefits of developing tourism.

Nowadays, more and more Chinese are keen on traveling to ancient villages such as Zhouzhuang and Wuzhen, which are not just about old buildings, they are also the root of Chinese culture. Just as the saying in the movie goes, "culture is the very foundation of a nation, a nation can never stand out in the world without cultural in-heritage."

Through the video, we can see different aspects of village life, like how they wash dishes in a big bowl and how they earn a living in town. It's quite a realistic movie despite some of the unstable footage.
