The program focuses on the young participants’ personal experiences of Chinese culture and encourages them to discover and tell Chinese stories from their own perspectives.
As of the year 2017, students from all over the world were invited to participate in the project. They were stationed in 12 municipality, provinces and autonomous regions here in China. Every filmmaker has worked out a 10-minute short film about Chinese culture around the topic of "Craftsmanship·Inheritance·Innovation.”
The short movie, "Nalin Craftsmen," directed by Sivanart Hongprayoon from Thailand and produced by Wang Xiaodong, Peng Shaoai, brings us a real and close look at Nalin carpet production in Jungar banner, Inner Mongolia.
Qiao Maolin and Yang Lisuo opened their own handicraft Nalin carpet shops. Although the shops are not profitable, they still want to keep it running in order to develop traditional carpet making skills. They combined both Chinese and Mongolian art and use 100% pure wool to make these exquisite carpets.
Furthermore, they hope young people pay more attention to Chinese traditional cultural and staining techniques of Nalin carpet production has been listed as a municipal intangible cultural heritage project.
Except for an obvious frame skip in the beginning of the movie, "Nalin Craftsmen" generally goes smooth, the choice of a local folk song brings some vivid color to the film. It presents a realistic picture of Nalin carpet production.
