Hans Christian Andersen Awards of IBBY 50th Anniversary Exhibition is held at the National Library of China from August 12 to October 29. About 300 original artworks from 25 illustrators, who received Hans Christian Andersen Awards, are on exhibit.

The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an author and illustrator of children's books. Given every other year by International Boardon Books for Young People（IBBY), the Hans Christian Andersen Awards recognize the lifelong achievement and are presented to an author and illustrator whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature.

Artists, whose artworks are presented here, are the winners of Hans Christian Andersen Awards from 1966 to 2014 including Roger Mello (Brazil), Peter Sís (Czech Republic), Jutta Bauer (Germany), Quentin Blake (UK), Kveta Pacovská (Czech Republic), Robert Ingpen (Australia), Mitsumasa Anno (Japan), Suekichi Akaba (Japan), Svend Otto S. (Denmark), Tatjana Mawrina (USSR), Farshid Mesghali (Iran), Ib Spang Olsen (Denmark), Maurice Sendak (USA), and Jirí Trnka (Czechoslovakia).

The show has many interaction activities. Visitors can get an automatic explanation device at the entrance to learn more about the background of all artworks on display.

The National Library of China is the largest library in Asia and one of the largest in the world. It holds the largest collections of Chinese literature and historical documents in the world.
