"Come to Beijing in spring to see some of the best films in the world". That's what the screening team for the Beijing International Film Festival would like to see. 500 films have been handpicked from more than 2000, submitted by over 100 countries around the world. They will be screened in cinemas across the city.
China Film Archive is the headquarters for all the preparation work related to the screenings. Although there is barely a week before the festival officially opens, staff members are still working on some final details.
In the past seven years since it launched, the Beijing International Film Festival has grown in influence, and therefore won the favor of film bureaus and institutions from various countries.
The selection work begins as early as the end of the last film festival. Staff members search for good films from the world's major festivals, make a list and solicit requests from the institutions involved.
The film copies normally don't arrive until the days leading up to the festival.
