Science-fiction author Liu Cixin has been nominated for the 2017 Hugo Award for Best Novel for his work "Death's End". The finalists in each category were announced online on Tuesday.

In 2015, Liu became the first Asian author to win the Hugo Award for Best Novel for his novel "Remembrance of Earth's Past", the first book in a trilogy entitled "The Three-Body Problem", or "San-ti" in Chinese. "Death's End" is the final book in the series that has been widely praised for its brilliant imagination.

It is credited with combining the exceedingly ephemeral with hard reality, while also revealing the essence and aesthetics of science. Much credit also went to translator Ken Liu for his reworking of "Remembrance of Earth's Past" into English. It is widely believed that because Liu changed translators for the second book in his trilogy, "The Dark Forest",  he missed out on a Hugo nomination in 2016. Perhaps as a result of this disappointment, Liu was once again called upon to translate "Death's End".

The Hugo Awards are highly regarded in literary circles, and are considered among the highest honors in science-fiction writing. The 2017 awards will be presented on August 11th.
