Let's take a quick look now at bilateral relations between China and the US. China is the biggest developing economy, while the United States is the largest developed economy. Bilateral trade stood at nearly 520 billion US dollars last year.
Since 2009, the two countries have held meetings under the Strategic and Economic Dialogue mechanism each year to discuss economic issues and other mutual concerns. During a telephone conversation in November, Chinese President Xi and his US President-elect Donald Trump both expressed willingness to further develop bilateral relations.
Following that conversation, China's State Councilor Yang Jiechi visited Washington and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited Beijing, paving the way for a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.
