Australia is the most developed nation that China has a free-trade agreement with. In the year since it was signed, China has cut import taxes on Australian seafood and diary products.
Meanwhile, Australia has overtaken Thailand as China's biggest supplier of fruit. In the first three quarters of last year, Australian exports of grapes to China saw huge increases, while healthcare products and infant formula also saw significant gains. Imports of mechanical products from China also increased in the same period. China has been Australia's biggest source of imports and destination of exports for eight years in a row, while bilateral trade was recorded at more then 100 billion US dollars last year.
And they're two popular holiday destinations for the two peoples, with more than two million tourists going either way. On top of that, there were more than a quarter of a million Chinese students in Australia last year.
