An exhibition of miniature art works branded, "Imago Mundi, Contemporary China" was held in Dali, Southwest China's Yunnan Province on March 22. Around 4,000 art works, in a single format - 10x12 cm, created by artists from 23 countries and regions are presented at the Dali Art Factory, which will run until April 10. And a series of shows will be held in a number of other Chinese cities later this year.

At the opening ceremony, Yan Zhijie, the initiator of "Contemporary China", the Imago Mundi China Project, introduced the background of the project.

It was initiated, founded and funded by Italy's Benetton Foundation for Study and Research, in the hope of collecting art works from all over the world and sharing diversity of international cultures. To date, more than 20,000 works have been collected from over 100 countries.

Yan also told participants the Imago Mundi China Project would invite artists from all 55 minority ethnic groups and also the Han majority to join a dialogue in the name of art and to cultivate and create art works, which represent their own ethnic culture. The China Project began in September 2015 and has involved more than 5,000 artists from 56 ethnic minorities.
"Contemporary China" is a non-profit project to promote diversified and colorful traditional Chinese culture to the outside world. Based on the principles of "open, diversified, inclusive, renovative," the project calls for painters, handy-craftsmen, photographers, designers, and etc. from all around China, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions, to submit their works.
Selected works are scheduled to join "Contemporary China – Int'l Miniature Ethnic Art Exhibition" when China celebrates the 100 anniversary of its founding in October 2049.
