China's Foreign Ministry confirmed on Monday that the country will not attend the negotiation on ban on nuclear weapons, which will be held on March 27th in New York. But the spokesperson of the ministry also addressed that China's stand on completely banning and destroying nuclear weapons is clear and consistent.
"After careful studies, China recently decided not to attend the negotiation. The decision is a result of considering to maintain the current international arms control and disarmament regime, It also reflects China's responsible attitude to maintain the global strategic balance and stability," said Hua Chunying, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"China always advocates and supports to completely ban and destroy nuclear weapons, which is in line with the talks on ban on nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, China thinks that it is hard to achieve the unclear disarmament in a short period. That needs us to follow and maintain the global strategic stability and ensure every country's safety. The process should be gradually pushed forward under the mechanism of current global disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons."
