NPC Standing Committee member Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai says pushing for Hong Kong's independence will harm the Special Administrative Region. She's urging the region's residents to cherish development opportunities. Otherwise, she says Hong Kong will be left behind. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang discussed the topic of Hong Kong independence for the first time in his work report at the start of this year's Two Sessions.
"To be honest, propagating 'Hong Kong Independence' would only bring harm to the city itself. Investors would probably refrain from putting their money here as they would be unsure of the political environment of the city, if it is stable or not. I hope Hong Kong citizens would rise against the ideology of 'Hong Kong Independence,' since it violates the rights of every single Hong Kong citizen," Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai said.
