Some members of the CPPCC in the cultural field met with the media this afternoon. The press conference focused on how to build confidence regarding our cultural roots and how to tell good Chinese stories to the outside world.

Delegate Su Shishu, president of China's Association of Calligraphers says efforts are being made to have Chinese calligraphy as part of the curriculum for elementary schools. When asked about the popularity of some cultural programs on TV, TV anchor Hai Xia says Chinese culture is a rich mine for TV producers to utilize. Hai says good examples are the televised contests on Chinese characters, idiom and poetry. When asked how to tell a good Chinese story, Phoenix TV CEO Liu Changle says China's years-long fight against corruption are good topics for artists to base their works on.

Member Kungfu star Jackie Chan, when asked how he felt about getting an honorary Oscar, said he was happy to get the award, although he thought he's still too young for such an honor. When asked how to help Chinese films better reach the world stage, Chan recalled the years he had a hard time catering to the taste of westerners, in an effort to be a Kungfu superstar internationally. But he said once he returned to his own strengths and worked hard at what he really liked, he was able to achieve the success that we see now. He says China is now such a big box office that moviemakers around the world are eager to take a share of it.
