Speaking at the meeting of UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, special representative for Human Rights Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Liu Hua said that peace is the premise and the foundation for human rights, and is something people from all around the world aspire to achieve.
She also emphasized the importance of development in promoting human rights and peace, stressing that "peace and development are mutually reinforcing", a position China has long held. Liu also said that in today's volatile world order, all countries should work together to address existing problems.
The 34th UN session on human rights began on Monday, and will continue through until late March, covering a range of issues including famine and children's rights.
