China’s iconic Palace Museum will open more areas to the public soon, and more items will be put on display than ever before.

Museum authorities say they will also build three new museums to house foreign artifacts, archeological relics, and ancient furniture.

Shan Ji'xiang,  curator of the museum says 85 percent of the Palace Museum will be open to the public in the coming years, and a total of 750 employees will move out.

Areas open to the public have already increased, from less than 30 percent of the museum's total space, to 76 percent today.

The museum will put more items on display, with the aim of making visitors more interested in China's history. Shows to exhibit elements of China's intangible cultural heritage will also be held.

For instance, visitors will see how ancient buildings are repaired, and how cultural relics are restored and kept safe.

Museum curator Shan Ji'xiang says the addition of more public areas will help visitors appreciate the institution, as well as reveal more of the Forbidden City.
