The Chinese Foreign Ministry has reiterated its opposition to statements made by Japan and the US concerning the Diaoyu Islands and the South China Sea.
"The Diaoyu Islands are an inherent part of China's territory. Nothing will change China's stance on safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity. We're against Japan's actions in using the US-Japan Security Treaty as a tool to get the US to endorse its illegal territorial claims. The US and Japan should be cautious and stop making remarks that will complicate regional peace and stability," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said.
Geng Shuang also said that China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea islands and adjacent waters. He said China is committed to dialogue with parties concerned to solve disputes peacefully. China is also working with some ASEAN countries to safeguard regional peace and stability.
"It is within China's sovereign rights to carry out construction work on its own islands and reefs. It's not related to militarization. Some countries flex their muscles by sending the military to the region, which is the biggest factor in militarization in the South China Sea. We urge the United States and Japan to view this issue objectively, and contribute to regional peace and stability, not do the opposite," Geng Shuang said.
