Foshan city hosts many migrant workers, and 80-thousand new positions have been opened after the Chinese New Year. In Dongguan city, a survey shows only 20 percent of the available jobs at 330 companies have been filled. Job fairs are common across China after the holidays, and many companies are eager to attract qualified recruits. Firms offer higher salaries, and give out benefits to the family members of workers. Free dormitories and Internet access are also among the common perks.
Most of the jobs available are in the information technology, manufacturing, and power sectors. Employees typically prefer to work in their hometowns so they can stay on top of their own households. However, many jobs that are open have specific requirements that may be hard to meet for many migrants.
