New Yorkers will soon have the chance to sample one of the best known Chinese dishes as one of Beijing's famous Peking duck restaurants is set to open in the city.

The new Da Dong restaurant will be opening this year, just around the corner from Times Square in New York City. It doesn't look like much now, but just wait.

CGTN was given this rendering of what Da Dong will look like when construction is complete.

Three levels, an outdoor patio,covering some 1,200 square meters.

CGTN visited just a day after construction officially began.

The interior had little more than markings on the floor, showing where key elements will be built.
There's a long way to go.

Celso Moreira is overseeing the launch.

He's Da Dong New York's Director of Operations.

Da Dong is one of the most famous Peking duck restaurants in Beijing.

Tourists and locals alike go there, posting their experiences in videos like these to social media.

Video titles include "Best Beijing Roast Duck" and "Duck Master."

The duck is prepared traditionally with perfectly thin, crispy skin, juicy meat and the usual garnishes.

Da Dong isn't saying much publicly about the new location in New York.

But we do know there will be several duck ovens... possibly as many as six.

And the space didn't come cheap. Final terms are unknown, but the asking rent had been more than two million dollars per year.

Da Dong is betting big on this location in New York... its first to open anywhere outside of China.

If all goes as planned, Da Dong New York will be serving its first diners this fall.
