BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi said Friday that China and the United States, with extensive common interests and colossal potential for cooperation, should continue their cooperation in line with the interests of the two countries and two peoples.
Yang made the remarks during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump's national security advisor Michael Flynn, at the latter's invitation.
China hopes the new U.S. administration will work with China and enhance bilateral exchanges at all levels, so as to safeguard the political foundation of the relations between the two countries and bolster their collaboration on bilateral, regional and global issues, Yang said.
He also urged the two countries to properly manage and control their disputes and sensitive issues, in a bid to push forward bilateral relations.
For his part, Flynn said that the U.S. government, committed to strong bilateral relations, is willing to promote high-level communications with China, conduct mutually beneficial cooperation and handle sensitive issues in a proper manner.
The U.S. and China could maintain cooperation on bilateral, regional and global affairs, said Flynn, adding the U.S. side hopes to continue close communications with China.
Yang and Flynn also exchanged views on some regional issues.
