PARIS, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A French soldier on duty opened fire on Friday at a man who tried to attack him with a knife at the entry of the Louvre Museum, according to local press and witnesses.
The man showed up with two suitcases in the basement of the Louvre Palace at about 10 a.m. (0900 GMT). He tried to attack the soldier with a knife after being refused entry into the museum, BFMTV quoted a police source as saying.
The soldier fired five shots on the attacker, who was seriously wounded, according to the same source.
No explosives were found on the attacker. Police sealed off the area after the incident.
