The Chinese commerce ministry has rejected a US report submitted to Congress, alleging that China has not lived up to its commitment within the World Trade Organization 15 years after the country became a WTO member.

Ministry of Commerce spokesman Sun Jiwen said China and the US have different understandings regarding the issues of bilateral trade and investment that were discussed in the American report. He also said the Chinese government regrets the US decision to submit the report to the US Congress.

"The Chinese government believes that China has been strictly obeying rules and fulfilling duties since joining the WTO, and that great contributions have been made by China in terms of multilateral trade," said Sun.

"The Chinese government has always believed it would be normal to encounter some frictions as economic and trade relations between China and America develop," added Sun.

Sun proposed that the two sides conduct more dialogue and cooperation to resolve their disputes in accordance with WTO rules so that they can contribute more to the multi-lateral trading system and global economic recovery.
