The two men responsible for hijacking an Afriqiyah Airways flight could be charged in court soon.
Police in Malta said they have 48 hours to charge the two hijackers following their arrest on Friday afternoon.
However, the probe into the case is ongoing and no date for the court appearance has been set yet.
Authorities added that it's too early to say if the hijackers were linked to a terrorist group. The duo had hijacked the plane on Friday during a domestic flight from Sebha to the Libyan capital Tripoli.
The flight was diverted to Malta after the hijackers refused to land in Tripoli.
After a four-hour stand off, the hijacking came to a peaceful conclusion and the plane's 111 passengers and six crew were released.
The passengers of the hijacked flight return to Libya Saturday morning.
