Italian authorities say police have shot dead the Tunisian suspect in the Berlin truck attack. Anis Amri was shot dead by police in Milan.
Italy's interior minister Marco Minniti said the suspect had fired at two police officers who had stopped his car for a routine identity check around 3 am local time.
Minniti said one of the two police officers was hit, but his condition is not life-threatening.
"We immediately informed the German authorities, both at the political level and through the police," he said.
"Allow me to express my total satisfaction, we consider these two young men as extraordinary people, very young, who by simply performing their duty, have done an extraordinary service to the community."
