The government says China will continue to boost its e-commerce industry in the coming years. The Ministry of Commerce says it will release a guideline soon to support development of the sector and mix it with other traditional industries.
The ministry says China's e-commerce industry aims to boost its annual sales to 40 trillion yuan, or around 5.8 trillion U.S. dollars by 2020.The ministry also says the expanding industry will provide up to 50 million jobs by then. Commerce Ministry officials say that still much will need to be done to achieve that goal.
"(We need to) improve the quality of the e-commerce industry, strengthen their competitiveness, upgrade the industry and raise their innovation capability. (Meanwhile we need to) create an easing environment and encourage more innovations to keep the industry's stable development," said Qian Fangli, director of dept. of Electronic Commerce, Ministry of Commerce.
