Kim Hong-Kyun -- South Korea's special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs -- has met with his US and Japanese counterparts in capital Seoul.
Tuesday's talks were attended by Joseph Yun -- the US State Department's Special Representative for North Korea Policy and Keni Kanasugi -- Japan's Director-General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs. The envoys discussed plans to execute UN Security Council Resolution 2321 which imposed new sanctions in response to the country's recent nuclear tests. They also discussed their own additional sanctions against Pyongyang.
"The strong sanctions and pressure, measures we have put together will not mean anything unless they are thoroughly implemented. So what is important now is for the three of us to continue to play a leading role in ensuring the international community faithfully implements those measures so that North Korea realises that it has no choice but to denuclearise," Kim Hong-Kyun said.
"As we go through the US administration transition, there should be no doubt as to the enduring strength and value of alliances with Republic of Korea," said Joseph Yun, US special envoy for DPRK policy.
