Despite the overwhelming evidence presented in the McClaren report, one man has decided to reject its findings. Former hockey pro and now coach Pavel Boychenko has spoken out following WADA's claims and he himself has claimed a western conspiracy against Russia.
Whether its blind faith or silly ignorance, to some degree you have to admire this coaches resilience to defend his country. Pavel Boychenko has been on the ice many years in Russia and believes this whole doping scandal is completely false.
"I played hockey for many years and I can say I haven't seen anyone doping. Yes, people take medicine but its always legal medicine which was not prohibited. My opinion on it is that it's all made up," said Pavel Boychenko.
After a long career in the KHL he's now coaching the next generation and sees on a day to day basis how hard up and coming athletes work to get results. Its achieved through determination he says not cheating.
"Western media is playing with this doping scandal because they probably want to discredit our country. I want our authorities to disprove it by proving it's not a coincidence that our sportsmen are achieving high results. It is built on the work of their coaches and the athletes," said Pavel Boychenko.
For now though, the coach will just have to accept he's in the minority. Even in his own country.
