Today is International Anti-Corruption Day. The event aims to raise awareness of the social and economic impact of corruption. It's been observed on the 9th of December every year since 2003.
This year, the international campaign calls for unity against crimes that can undermine social and economic development in all levels of society.
According to the UN, US$1 trillion is paid in bribes while an estimated US$2.6 trillion is stolen through corruption every year.
The sum equals more than five percent of the global GDP. China has been beefing up its efforts in investigating corruption, as well as improving law enforcement and public services.
