China put out its smart manufacturing plan for the next five years, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Wednesday. The government wants to improve the country's ability to make smart equipment and software.
The plan laid out specific targets for its smart manufacturing industry. Including key equipment making, key software making, and new standards for smart manufacturing. It also includes advancing new businesses for smart factories and workshops.
"This would prevent us from using robots to replace our workers. We don't want to see the situation that foreign machines take the place of our own workers. We would like to develop smart manufacturing, and lift our smart equipment and software industries."said Qu Xianming,Dir. of Manufacturing Research from Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The plan also asked for a firmer base for smart manufacturing, and provide a system to help nurture new industries.
"By 2020, The total demand for machinery equipment would reach nine trillion yuan, with a large portion of it smart equipment. If we could provide up to 50 percent on our own, then we are talking about a market worth several trillion yuan."said Qu Xianming.
Chinese government has issued several long-term strategies to upgrade the country's manufacturing sector. Last year, it put out the Made in China 2025 plan.
Analysts say both the domestic demand and competition around world will help push China to raise its ability as the "factory of the world".
