The reigning Miss Universe, the Philippines' Pia Wurtzbach, is home. Huge crowds greeted her, as she paraded Manila's streets on Monday. And as Wurtzbach herself tells CCTV correspondent she’s moved on from the big mistake.

Filipinos dubbed it the most beautiful day. Their very own Pia Wurtzbach, the reigning Miss Universe, is home. And they’re giving her nothing short of a hero’s welcome.

A hero's welcome for Pia Wurtzbach

“I’m very proud that’s why I’m carrying this flag as a symbol of our patriotism.”

“I waited a long time for our Miss Universe title so it’s time. So I prepared just a simple sash and crown.”

Wearing a traditional deep olive green Filipino gown, she smiles, she waves and the crowd goes crazy.

You have to understand the Miss Universe pageant is like the Superbowl or the Olympics to many Filipinos. So not winning for 42 years and then suddenly having a Filipina crowned Miss Universe is a triumph for the whole country. This grand homecoming parade isn’t at all over the top by this country’s standard.

Even on competition night in Las Vegas, Pia says the support from Filipinos was overwhelming. She remembers her co-contestants saying.

"Your whole country is here. And I said, “Yeah. I actually didn’t expect it to be this crazy as well. But they’re here. We’re very passionate about Miss Universe," said Pia Wurtzbach.

So are Colombians apparently. So when the pageant’s host Steve Harvey declared their candidate Miss Universe only to take it back shortly after, it was as if hell broke loose. But Pia says everyone’s moved on.

"I think everybody has because surprisingly no one asked me about it during the press conference. I think that’s a good thing. I think it should be that way. I think it’s good that we’ve stopped talking about the mistake because it’s been more than a month already," said Pia Wurtzbach.

The mistake may have cost her that crowning moment on pageant night, but this –the outpouring of love and support from Filipinos – is no doubt a Miss Universe moment.
