US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has said the military plans to return some land in Okinawa to the Japanese government by the end of the year. Carter announced this during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.
The plan would be the largest transfer since 1972, covering some 10-thousand acres of land in northern Okinawa.
Abe earlier announced his plan to visit Pearl Harbor in Hawaii later this month to mark the 75th anniversary of Japan's attack. Terrence Terashima reports.
