Do you want to build a snowman? Elsa didn't want to, but that's not necessarily the case for sculptors at the China Harbin International Snow Sculpture Art Expo. A stunning display of sculptures will be unveiled to tens of thousands of tourists visiting from all across the globe. And this year, the snow sculptors are stepping up their game - or should I say, packing in more snow.
A stunning display of sculptures will be unveiled to tens of thousands of tourists visiting from all across the globe.
Harbin's 29th snow sculpture exposition is to be held at Sun Island. This year's exhibition is themed "Winter and Love."
A total of 120,000 cubic meters of snow will be used for snow sculptures in five scenic areas, covering around 600,000 square meters.
There will be five exhibition areas at the expo, including a scenic area at the expo center, display areas for snow sculptures, competition areas for carving sculptures, display areas for snow landscape architecture, and a main display area for the biggest snow sculpture.
The sculpture will be 103 meters long, 14 meters wide, and 31 meters high, with 40,000 cubic meters of snow.
"It is a bust of a young girl, and it's going to be the largest snow portrait in the expo's history. We have nearly 100 artisans working around the clock to do the job. We can complete the project by as early as December 20th," said Zhang Ningge, sculptor.
If the weather conditions permit, the 29th edition of the expo will open ahead of time on December 20th. In the following weeks, the sculptors will pay close attention to construction, in order to show the unique snow sculpture culture of Harbin as soon as possible.
