Liu Jieyi says the Security Council should ensure that conditions are right for the resumption of a ceasefire, political peace talks, cooperation in fighting terrorism, and humanitarian relief. China and Russia have blocked a proposal for a seven-day humanitarian truce in Syria’s Aleppo.
Liu says there are still serious differences on how to approach the conflict and that the resolution would not have improved the situation in the country. He says peaceful negotiations and dialogue are vital to ending the conflict as soon as possible.
