Let's take a look at some of background of the meeting. The Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process was founded on November 2nd, 2011 in Istanbul. It was designed to provide a platform to discuss regional issues, particularly encouraging security, political, and economic cooperation between Afghanistan and its neighbors.

Coordinated actions are expected to address regional challenges including terrorism, narcotics, poverty, and extremism. The Heart of Asia comprises 14 participating countries, 17 supporting ones and 12 supporting regional and international organizations.
