Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day celebrated annually around the world since 1992. Currently around 10 percent of the total world's population, or roughly 650 million people, live with a disability.
80% of that number live in developing countries. The World Bank estimates 20 per cent of the world's poorest have some kind of disability. Though progress has been made around the world on guaranteeing the rights of the disabled, social and legal barriers which marginalize them still exist. They continuet o face limits on employment, education and medical care.
