President Park Geun-hye made an unannounced visit to a fire-ravaged market in her political stronghold of Daegu on Thursday. The visit was her first public appearance in over a month amid the ongoing political corruption scandal. Hundreds of stores were destroyed and two firefighters were injured at Seomun Market when a fire broke out there on Wednesday.
Also on Thursday, the birthplace of late President Park Chung-hee, the father of Park, was set on fire, in the southern city of Gumi. South Korean police detained a man suspected of setting the fire.
