In the CBA, the Guangdong Southern Tigers hosted the Tianjin Gold Lions. Guandong are eight-time champions, and after a poort start to the season, it went on to win six games in a row and was looking to make it seven against Tianjin who are still struggling to find their way under new coach Xu Guijun.
The Southern Tigers had won all 16 of thier preivous meetings and Yi Jianlian hits a three for the first points of the game. And when Carlos Boozer finished off the glass, Guangdong had a 12-point lead late in the first quarter.
Their advantage was down to five in the third Q, but Yi’s casual jumper shows Guangdong are not worried.
Perhaps the Southern Tigers were too relaxed as Pooh Jeter nailed a triple to make it 86-83 Guangdong. And things only got closer in the fourth quarter as Sani Sakakini makes it a two-point game with nine minutes to play.
That gets Guangdong going and Yi collected it in the paint to finish with a flush, part of his 28 points this night.
Donald Sloan added one more basket with the step back three as Guangdong won 114-103 for their seventh straight victory.
Also in action were the Liaoning Flying Leopards at home to the Qingdao Eagles.
Liaoning trailed by one point with only seconds to play and Lester Hudson drove in. Su Wei attempted to block, but was just a bit too late. The ball was on the way down so he was called for goaltending, which means Liaoning was credited for the basket that gave them the win, 111-110.
Also on Wednesday, Guangsha beat Tongxi 136-111, the Shanghai Sharks came from behind to see off Xinjiang 122-97 for their fifth consecutive win. The Beijing Ducks edged the Guangzhou Long-Lions 102-101. Shanxi won by 21 and Jiangsu by 25.
