This year, filmmakers from the Chinese mainland swept up all the major trophies at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. Any thoughts on why this occurred?

A lot of unusual things happened at this year's awards. We'll get to more of that later. But unlike what has happened previously, many films that received more than a handful of nominations walked away with only one or two, and sometimes no awards. For example, there were some Taiwan and Hong Kong films that didn't do as well as expected. Why do you think that is the case this year?

Veteran mainland director Feng Xiaogang won Best Director, securing his third "Golden Horse" win with "I Am Not Madame Bovary". The film is a social satire about a peasant woman played by Fan Bing Bing who gets swindled by her unfaithful husband and spends ten years trying to get her divorce nullified. The theme here is really about going up against bureaucracy and the system - and in the past, these types of films were very sensitive in China. So how was Feng Xiaogang able to overcome that in this film?

Director Zhang Dalei's black-and-white film, "The Summer Is Gone", was the biggest dark horse of the night, winning the coveted best picture award. Set in the 1990's in Inner Mongolia, the film is about a family going through a time of transition. When this film started it's festival run, many critics thought that only a small audience would highly appreciate this film. Does this say something about the growing popularity of Art House films in China?

There's a very touching scene in the movie. Father Chen is sawing chunks off a wooden mop to make his son a pair of nunchucks which he never parts with during the rest of the film. The movie is understated, but speaks volumes. Films like this one explore humanity and relationships on a much deeper level and its usually these types of films that leave a lasting impression. It makes people think. So do you think it's beneficial for people to see more of these types of films?

Actor Fan Wei won best lead actor for his performance in the movie "Mr. No Problem" in which he plays a farm manager in 1940's rural China. Fan Wei started out doing sketch comedy and he was very famous for that. We see that in the West too with comedian turned actor Jamie Foxx for example. So what is Fan Wei's acting style, did his background in comedy give him a leg up?

History was made at the Golden Horse Awards this year. For the first time ever,  two lead actresses  shared the best actress award. Zhou Dongyu and Ma Sichun played two best friends in the romantic drama "Soul Mate". Their relationship is tested when they fall in love with the same man.  Two actresses from the same film won the Best Actress Award - can you explain this outcome?

Taiwan's Elaine Jin won her second best supporting actress statuette after 22 years, for playing a depressed mother in Hong Kong director Wong Chun's family drama "Mad World". Wong claimed the best new director award for his debut feature film shot on a shoestring budget of around $258,000. Best supporting actor went to Taiwanese singer-actor Lin Po-hung for his role in "At Cafe 6".
