As a UN charter member and one of five permanent Security Council members, China has shown strong commitment to supporting UN peacekeeping efforts. The country has dispatched over 30,000 peacekeepers on 24 UN peacekeeping missions to date.
13 peacekeepers have died while performing their duties. Following the US, China is expected to give the second-biggest financial contribution to UN peacekeeping missions from 2016 to 2018.
Moreover, China plans to set up a permanent United Nations peacekeeping force of 8,000 troops. And it plans to provide 100 million U.S. dollars to the African Union to create a quick-response emergency unit.
