Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Cuban embassy on Tuesday to mourn the passing of Fidel Castro.
Xi observed a moment’s silence before taking three bows. Xi called Castro “a great leader of the Cuban people” and the founder of China-Cuba relations. It is the first time Xi has visited an embassy to mark the death of a foreign leader since taking office in 2013. He said this visit sends a message that China stands together with Cuba.
The newly-appointed Cuban Ambassador to China, Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos, thanked Xi, adding that Cuba will continue Castro's work on bilateral ties.
