Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have separately met with incoming U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Beijing.
Xi congratulated Guterres on being elected as the next UN Chief and pledged China's support.
Xi congratulated Guterres on being elected as the next U.N. Chief and pledged China’s support. Xi praised the United Nations as the world’s most authoritative inter-governmental organization, one that has played an important role in resolving global challenges. He called on the U.N. to continue to abide by the principles laid out in its Charter: to safeguard global peace and stability, realize common and sustainable development, and assist developing countries.
Xi said China will continue to support the UN and its principles, and will increase communication and pragmatic cooperation with the organization.
Guterres expressed his appreciation for China’s support and said the U.N. will work more closely with China to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.
Li and Guterres discussed ways to strengthen economic globalization and realize inclusive global development.
