The Syrian army says government forces and its allies have retaken a strategically important district in eastern Aleppo. Syrian rebel forces lost around a third of their territory in eastern Aleppo over the weekend.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says fighting in Aleppo has forced nearly 10,000 civilians to flee their homes. The government's recent military advance marks the biggest setback for the oppositions in the besieged city since 2012.
